Flyfishmagazine.com’s Holiday Gift Guide: 2007

Each year we ask the staff of FlyFishMagazine.com to take a few moments away from the river to let us know what products they would like to see under their Christmas tree this year.  The resulting yearly list of products has become one of the fly fishing industry’s most exclusive clubs.  Ok - maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration but to get on the list we do have to really really like you.

We start off this year’s gift guide with picks from Middle Tennessee Editor, Jay Moore.  As usual Jay’s picks do not disappoint.

Jay “the salmon wrestler” Moore runs a lumber yard in Nashville, Tennessee. When he isn’t working or hanging out with the stars of country music, he is Flyfishmagazine.com’s contact in middle Tennessee. Jay considers his home water to be the Caney Fork and Duck Rivers but ranges far and wide in search of fly fishing opportunities.

In this year’s gift guide Jay’s picks don’t all relate to fly fishing. We were perplexed until we found out that Jay made the catch of a lifetime is planning a tropical wedding for early 2008 (she fishes too).   Congratulations Jay and Tammy!

The Beauchamp Trout Knife on sale at www.orvis.com for $499.00. That is a $300.00 savings and it is still too rich for my blood but it is such a cool knife that if I had it, I would be afraid to use it. If you have an extra $500.00, pick up one of these limited edition beauties.

Here is how the wordsmiths from Orvis describe it:

An exclusive collectible knife, exquisitely handcrafted, signed, and dated by master knifemaker Gaetan Beauchamp. Limited to only 50 pieces, with natural variations in the genuine Alaskan fossil mammoth ivory and the beautifully detailed scrimshaw rainbow trout and fly, each knife is one-of-a-kind. Full-tang blade wrought in ATS-34 stainless steel with solid 416 stainless steel bolsters. Three-quarter length sheath trimmed with salmon skin fashioned by Beauchamp's wife, Denise Bryar. 3" blade length, 7" overall.

 Live in Anguilla

What’s the best way to get you thinking about next year’s bonefish trip? The Jimmy Buffett Live in Anguilla CD. You can never have enough Jimmy Buffett and this new cd features 82 minutes of his finest. Just the thing to get you into that island mood on a cold December day. It is on sale at www.amazon.com

Last but not least, how about a Tommy Bahama Island Print Shirt from www.alohashirtshop.com . Many are on sale and would be a welcome gift for those of you that wear the tropical style shirts like I do.

If you sense a tropical theme to my gifts this year it is because Tammy and I are in the process of planning our upcoming wedding in Whitehouse Jamaica this Feb.
